Minilab IQ Basic Calibration
This option is when you are happy to send the unit back to us of your own accord or physically drop your unit into our calibration centre. No certificate is provided with this option.
From time to time all serious alcohol breathalysers require calibration. This can be based on time elapsed but also the number of uses. Please refer to your user manual for information on when the best time to calibrate your device. Read below to find out more about how the calibration process works.
Please note: We only provide calibration services for Minilab IQ, Minilab H3, Minilab Pro, Minilab Evo, and BACtrack breathalyzers or for models sold on this website. If you do not see your model available on this website then we do not have the facility to calibrate it. Any breathalyzers sent to us that do not fall within the above will incur a return shipping fee.
Note: If you prefer not to send your device for calibration, you can also get the Minilab IQ Replaceable Sensor here

The process of calibration
Regardless of sensor type, all kinds of precision gas sensors require adjustment in order to ensure accuracy. Calibration of a Breathalyzer means to check and adjust the accuracy of the gas sensor by comparing it to the standard value obtained from a certified alcohol solution that is guaranteed to display the correct alcohol level. The method we use to correct alcohol tester is the wet bath method. Specialist equipment and a trained technician is required. It is not something that can be attempted at home or by an untrained individual. A wet bath uses a certified standard concentration of alcohol solution diluted water and alcohol in a simulator. The alcohol gas simulator transforms the certified alcohol solution into a gas which is then used to test the device's accuracy. Specialist software is then used to adjust the sensor to ensure the results of the Breathalyzer are aligned with the certified solution.
To ensure optimal performance, all breathalyzers must be calibrated periodically. Over time, the sensor becomes saturated, and the results of the device can drift. In a garda station in Ireland, alcohol breathalyzers are calibrated and checked on a weekly basis as accuracy is absolutely paramount on a device that gives evidence in prosecutions.
